NIIT in tie-up with Red Hat

BANGALORE, Feb. 25

NIIT announced on Friday a tie-up with Red Hat Inc, the market leader in open source Linux. Under the agreement, NIIT will be offering training on Linux certification exam for attaining the Red Hat certified Engineer (RHCE) status.

Announcing this at a news conference here, Mr. Ian Cole, Director, Services, Red Hat Inc, said NIIT was the only company to offer RHCE training in Asia and Red Hat was also not looking at any other partner in India.

The five-day programme in class room mode includes a one day practical examination. According to Mr. Pradeep Narayanan, head of Education Operations at NIIT, the programme at a cost of Rs. 10,000 is targeted at individuals who have proficiency in compute rs. ``We are positioning to offer services to dotcom companies'' he added.

Red Hat, with a market capitalisation of $10 billions, was also looking at a joint venture in India for localising Linux to the Indian market. ``We have been talking to a lot of partners for a joint venture'' Mr. Cole added.
