Low shrimp purchases

WITH the Japanese trade concentrating on the domestic markets in anticipation of the Obon festival demand in May, wholesalers and reprocessors are busy. But here, purchases from packers continued to be low and trading was desultory, said market sources.

Though there were no major enquiries, prices ruled around $18 per kg for 16/20 counts of black tiger because of poor arrivals, said market sources.

Once arrivals commence in April/May, the market prices are bound to drop. In the meanwhile, packers and purchasers were just staying in the market with isolated transactions, said packers.
