Ministerial group to look into SICA changes

NEW DELHI, March 7

THE Union Cabinet has decided to refer the amendments to the Sick Industrial Companies Act (SICA), 1985, to a Group of Ministers headed by the Finance Minister, Mr. Yashwant Sinha. The Group would include the Ministers of Industries, Labour and Power, of ficial sources said

It is understood that there were apprehensions in the Cabinet over the repeal of the SICA, without an alternative arrangement for dealing with industrial sickness in place.

The Group would come up with suggestions for a viable alternative, officials said. The Cabinet also approved to extend the International Coffee Agreement, 1994, by two years till September 30 this year.
