IT briefs: Oracle, NIIT forge alliance
CHENNAI: Oracle Software India Ltd and NIIT Ltd have formed an alliance to offer training on Oracle technologies. As per the New Technologies agreement, NIIT will be the exclusive training partner of Oracle 8i.
The 160-hour training programme, under NIIT's Curriculum for Advanced Technology Studies (CATS), will be available in eight cities _ Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune.
Wipro Kannada printers
BANGALORE: Wipro Infotech has launched the country's first Kannada line matrix printers and dot matrix printers. Launching the printers, the Karnataka IT Secretary, Mr. Vivek Kulkarni, said there was a big need for local language printers in government d
epartments. ``The State Treasury at Mysore would straightaway require at least 225 printers,'' he added.
Appuonline Web directory
MUMBAI: Midas Internet Services, a Chennai-based company, has launched www.appuonline.com, a Web directory offering India-related information. The directory, spread over 4,000 categories, claims to be the largest of its kind in India.
In a press release here, Mr. S. Narasimhan, CEO of Midas, said appuonline.com would list 1.5 lakh Web sites by March-end and that it incorporated the country's only indigenously developed meta search engine.
Convergent bags award
BANGALORE: Convergent Communications India Pvt Ltd, a Bangalore-based IT company, has won the Motorola Asia-Pacific Exemplary Channel Award for 1999. It was presented to the company at the ``Year 2000 Channel Partner Conference' held in China recently.
Mr. Venkat Kedlaya, Managing Director, said the award was the result of the hard work put in by the company's teams _ sales, technical support, marketing and distribution. It was also the recognition by the customer in the quality of Motorola networking
