Jan. 11: The Centre lifts with `immediate effect’ the ban on export of sugar from the country sans any quantity ceiling.

Jan. 16: Edible oil imports in the first two months of the current oil year (Nov. 2006-Oct. 2007) increase by 11 per cent to 6.19 lakh tonnes compared with 5.47 lakh tonnes during the same period a year ago.

Jan. 21: The Centre plans to ban export of skimmed milk powder (SMP).

Jan. 23: The Centre bans futures trading in tur and urad until further notice.

Jan. 24: The Finance Ministry effects a 10 percentage point cut in the basic customs duty on crude palm oil and 12.5 percentage points in respect of RBD (refined, bleached, de-odourised) palmolein.

Jan. 25: The Centre announces duty-free imports of maize (corn) till Dec. 31.
