Two persons were killed in an accident at the Birla Copper unit, an arm of Hindalco Industries Ltd at Dahej in Gujarat on Tuesday.
The police registered a case of accidental death of the two workers, who fell inside the storage vessel while cleaning during the planned shut-down of the plant.
"The two suffocated due to gas inside the vessel. Other workers rushed to the spot and pulled them out of the vessel and provided first aid. They were rushed to a hospital in Bharuch, but both died during the treatment," said the police sources at Dahej Police station.
The police identified the two victims as Vijay Anandsinh Kshatriya and Balram Kashiram respectively.
Company officials at the plant confirmed the accident during the planned shut-down. "The accident took place around lunch time. The plant was shut for routine maintenance, so there will not be an impact on plant operations," said a senior company official at Dahej.
