John Distilleries, the makers of Original Choice whisky, plans to launch its first single malt whisky brand within six months. United Distilleries and Amruth Distilleries are the only other domestic companies which manufacture single malt whisky in the market.
“The single malts will be priced at around Rs 2,000 for a bottle of 750 ml. They will be matured in once-used bourbon casks and will be on par with international single malts,” said Mr Paul P John, Chairman, John Distilleries.
He said that the products will be sold abroad and once their quality is recognised internationally, they will be launched in India.
The company is also in the process of launching Roulette, premium brandy. Mr John said that pricing for Tamil Nadu, the largest brandy market in India, has already been finalised.
“We will be selling it to TASMAC (Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation) for Rs 2,400 for a case of 12 bottles of 750 ml each,” he said.
