German airline Lufthansa is keen to bring the world’s largest passenger aircraft, Airbus 380, to India but the route on which it will operate and from when is yet to be firmed up, the airline’s Vice-President, Asia-Pacific region, Steffen Harbarth, said on Tuesday.
At the moment, Lufthansa operates 46 weekly flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Chennai.
Addressing a press conference, Harbarth welcomed the Indian Government’s decision on the Airbus 380 as this was something that foreign carriers had been requesting for some years. The conference had been called to announce the appointment of Wolfgang Will as the airline's Director, India.
The Indian Government finally allowed foreign airlines to operate the Airbus A-380 on regular flights last month. The decision to lift the ban was taken almost six years after the A-380 took to the skies.
Lufthansa’s officials replied in the negative when asked if the US Federal Aviation Administration’s decision to downgrade India to category II status on safety would affect the code-share agreement that Lufthansa had with various airlines here.
