Subdued cargo and construction truck business is now seeing growth mainly from auto logistics and cement transport. The business was solely dependent on the replacement market.

“We saw a subdued market in the last few years. There was not much of growth, however, this year (for seven months) we saw a good growth, primarily on account of replacement demand,” Rajesh Kaul, Business Head - intermediate, medium and heavy trucks, commercial vehicle business unit of Tata Motors told Business Line at CII’s EXCON 2015 expo.

“Specifically if we get on to the applications, some of the applications did very well, auto logistic (cargo truck) saw good growth in first-seven months. A auto logistics typically is scooters or cars or the chassis carriers those registered a good growth,” he added. Talking about construction range of vehicles, he said: “In the first-seven months, tippers saw a growth of about 8 per cent which I would say was low growth.”

“Going forward, when the government announces new policies for infrastructure development, the utilisation would be better,” he added.

At CII-EXCON, the Tata Motors launched and showcased four new construction and mining commercial vehicles.
