Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt Ltd (TTDI) has announced that it has bagged a Rs 226-crore ($34-million) contract from Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC) for the supply of 8,000 distribution transformers made in India at the company’s manufacturing facility in Hyderabad.

The order entails installation of distribution transformers along transmission and substation networks connecting power plants and end-consumers in Nairobi, Mombasa and surrounding regions. TTDI will fulfill the order over a period of three years, starting in June 2016.

Katsutoshi Toda, Chairman & Managing Director, TTDI said, “The repeat order from KPLC for distribution transformers reinforces our commitment to establish India as a manufacturing base and export hub for African countries, and is a testimony to the superior quality products made in India by Toshiba. With manufacturing and supplying of highly evaluated products, we will continue to contribute to the growth of industries.”

In September 2015, TTDI had first received an order for approximately 4,000 distribution transformers from KPLC, which was successfully delivered by March 2016. The award of a new contract is based on KPLC’s positive evaluation of TDDI's manufacturing capacity and product quality because of a proven track record in reliable quality and delivery.

“TTDI is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of distribution transformers. TDDI is committed to the development and manufacturing of environmentally friendly high-efficiency products, including amorphous metal transformers that have low losses at a low load factor. Our recent capacity expansion at the Hyderabad factory with $30 million has allowed us to expand the business further and provide cost-competitive products by localising procurement, design and manufacturing within India,” Toda added.
