Latest advances in technology being labelled as ‘Manufacturing 4.0’ has potential applications in factory production, according to Mahesh K Bhalgat, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer, Shantha Biotechnics Pvt Ltd, an arm of Sanofi.
Speaking at a conference on digitisation of pharma manufacturing organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here on Tuesday, Bhalgat said digital technology could be used in a variety of applications such as enhancing labour productivity, product related intelligence/analysis, and activity synchronisation.
Stating that it will lead to cost savings, he said: “If we can improve performance by 1 per cent, it can create an estimated value of $63 billion in healthcare industry alone over next 15 years.’’
P Eshwar Reddy, Executive Director, Bulk Drug Manufacturers Association (India), said digitisation will help in raw material management, shop floor control and predictive maintenance.
According to Neville Dsouza, Industry Leader - Life Sciences, Rockwell Automation, latest developments in pharma and life sciences such as personalised medicine, reduction in the size of production lots and smart manufacturing, will call for digitisation of production.
