Former Union Minister for Environment and Forests, Jairam Ramesh, said that in India, environment is not a "lifestyle, but a livelihood issue''.
At an event here on Thursday at Observer Research Foundation, he said be it acquisition of land or forest rights, all boiled down to livelihood of many people.
"You cannot forcibly acquire land and remove people. Also linked are health and cultural identities. You need to make a choice in favour of livelihood.''
