India will begin to export additional power to an extent of 500 MW to Bangladesh as soon as work on the SAARC Grid is completed, VK Agrawal, Executive Director, NLDC, Power System Operation Corporation said.
Stronger ties“In view of deepening and thickening bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh following conclusion of the recent summit level talks between the Prime Ministers of the two countries, a decision has been taken to supply additional 500 MW of gas-based electricity to Bangladesh,” said Agrawal at an industry conference on power transmission and distribution organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday.
India already exports 500MW of power to Bangladesh. The additional gas-fired 500MW will be provided after the completion of the SAARC grid.
Agrawal added that the work on the SAARC grid is expected to be completed in a year or so and after that India too will draw considerably higher volumes of hydro power from Bhutan and Nepal.
