India's one of the largest shipbuilding player, Pipavav Shipyard (Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company Ltd) is faced with resistance from the contractors at its yard in Amreli in Gujarat over pending payments.
The senior official of the company confirmed the 'resistance' from vendors, who allegedly locked the main gates of the yard thereby trying to disrupt the operations.
"There is some resistance among the vendors over outstanding payments. But we have initiated talks with them and will sort out the issue. It needs to be understood that the company is already into CDR," said a senior official in company administration at the shipyard in Amreli.
"There is no impact on operations. Work is going on smoothly," said the official.
According to sources, over 100 contractors had gathered at the main gates of Pipavav Shipyard raising slogans against the company, which was taken over by the Anil Ambani-led Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) earlier this year.
Contractors allegedly demanded immediate clearance of their dues. The group of protesting contractors claimed that over Rs 60 crore worth of payments towards various works were pending for long.
