A high-level team of the Kerala government has assessed that the work on the Vizhinjam International Deepwater Multi-Purpose Seaport project near here is progressing ‘as per schedule.’

Adani Vizhinjam Ports Pvt Ltd, a special purpose vehicle set up after Adani Ports and SEZ had emerged as the sole bidder for the project last year, is executing work on the Rs 7,525-crore first phase.

Adani Vizhinjam Ports has already announced that the work on the first phase will be completed within 1,000 days, although, as per the agreement, it has four years to do the same.

On Thursday, a team of officials led by KM Chandrasekhar, Vice-Chairman, Kerala Planning Board, and PK Mohanty, Chief Secretary, visited the site to review the progress of work on the project.

Accompanied by G Vijayaraghavan, Member, Planning Board, the team interacted with officials of Adani Vizhinjam Ports.

FISHING HARBOUR

The team was taken around the site by AS Suresh Babu, Managing Director and CEO of Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, the original promoters, and Santhoshkumar Mohapatra, Director and CEO, Adani Vizhinjam Ports.

The team also visited the proposed the site for the new fishing harbour being set up as a corporate social responsibility project. Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd has already acquired 1.44 hectares of land for the same.
