The government will soon begin the search for the country’s new Chief Statistician after TCA Anant retired last month.
“The process will begin soon with an advertisement. A search-cum-selection committee, led by Cabinet Secretary PK Sinha, will shortlist the candidates,” said a person familiar with the development.
The final decision will be by the Prime Minister-led Appointments Committee of Cabinet.
Professionals in the field of statistics and economics as well as government officials with the requisite qualifications will be eligible to apply.
The selection process is likely to be completed in a period of three months and the appointment is likely by June.
The selected candidate will also be Secretary, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), and be in charge of data divisions of Central Statistics Office, National Sample Survey Organisation as well as the Programme Implementation wing and the MP Local Area Development Scheme.
Former Chief Statistician and MoSPI Secretary TCA Anant retired on January 31 after holding office for seven-and-a-half years.
At present, KV Eapen, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, has been given additional charge of the post of Secretary, MoSPI.
