FreeCharge, the fastest growing digital wallet in the country, has introduced a 'Chat and Pay' service that would enable social payments, which are also known as person-to-person payments.

This service also enables person-to-merchant payments, thereby, connecting merchants and consumers to chat, shop and pay.

FreeCharge customers can with this service seamlessly chat and pay in a secure way with friends, family and merchants in less than five seconds.

"Payments are often social; they are in fact a very human interaction. Chat N Pay brings this human emotion to payments, making them deeply engaging. We are confident Chat N Pay will accelerate the adoption of digital payments," Govind Rajan, Chief Operating Officer, FreeCharge said.

The 'Chat and Pay' service is expected to make digital payments frictionless.

It would also help expand FreeCharge's digital payment ecosystem to include new users such as neighbourhood small shopkeepers, taxi services and merchants from the unorganised sector without any investment.

In India, digital payments account for just 3 per cent of total payments.

Merchant payments through the 'Chat and Pay' service will give a boost to India's journey to a cashless economy, Rajan said.

Merchants can now start accepting digital payments by downloading FreeCharge App, he added.
