The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has picked the UK-based business technology and services provider Xchanging Plc as its e-governance provider for the next three years, a statement from the company said.

NCTE, an autonomous body that functions under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, is tasked with regulating and promoting teacher education in the country. With applications for the setting up of teacher training institutes on the rise – the NCTE received around 10,000 applications this year – the need had been felt for an e-solutions provider to streamline the process of approvals. Xchanging was chosen from among 13 contenders through a competitive tender process.

Minimising cost

In addition to developing the e-governance platform for the NCTE, Xchanging also redesigned NCTE’s Web site using free and open source software (FOSS) to minimise the total cost of ownership for the Council, the statement added.

“We are extremely proud to have been chosen by the NCTE as its e-governance solution provider. Our focus is to help the organisation adopt more efficient ways to regulate, monitor and support teacher training institutes across India,” said Alok Sinha, Xchanging’s President (Global Application and Engineering Services).
