Share certificates have long become electronic in the country, with investors holding them in demat accounts.
People in Andhra Pradesh can now enjoy the benefits of demat versions of their certificates, thanks to e-Pragati, an e-governance project. Students need not carry their educational, caste and income certificates with them.
Cross-verification
“If a certificate is available with a government department, it will be accessed by another government department. People need not bother about carrying the certificates with them for physical verification,” Milan Narendra, Partner (Government Advisory Services) of EY India, told BusinessLine .
The State government has roped in EY for the implementation of the project, which takes e-governance to the next level. Pegasystems will provide the technology to support the services.
Digital repository
The project makes the digital repository of all government certificates available for cross-validation by different agencies, using the Aadhaar authentication of applicants. EY has set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) to oversee the implementation process.
“All these years, electronic services are being implemented from the perspective of government departments. ePragati will change it completely, bringing citizens to the centrestage,” Narendra said.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched the e-Pragati Core Platform in Vijayawada.
Project cost
The e-governance project is estimated to cost about ₹800 crore over a five-year period. It targets to connect people with 34 departments and 336 autonomous organisations, covering over 745 services. People Hub, a massive repository of people’s socio-economic data that can be accessed by stakeholders, is part of e-Pragati project.
Over 80 certificates, licences and permits will be available online. About 100 mobile apps will be made available to access the services.
