Considering the emerging opportunities in the maritime sector, Kerala Government has proposed to set up maritime institutes in the State.
The Government has taken initial steps in this regard to open two such institutes in Neendakara in Kollam and Kodungallur.
The institute at Neendakara will be set up in14 acres of land owned by the State Ports Department.
The Chief Minister has laid the foundation stone for the project for which the Government is envisaging initial investment of nearly Rs 25 crore.
DGS-approved courses at the institute are expected to commence in 2015.
