Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Bengaluru, celebrated the birthday of Dr SB Mujumdar, the founder of Symbiosis International University, by holding an event to promote the welfare of International students studying in India.
The event titled ‘Utopia 2016’, The International Cultural Fest with the motto ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ saw over 596 students from 25 countries participate at SIBM Bengaluru campus.
Students participated in a rhapsody of 14 different cultural and sports events and were predominantly from African and Asian sub-continents like Nigeria, Afghanistan, Nepal, Mauritius, and Congo.
According to Syed Mujtaba, Coordinator of the organizing committee, Utopia 2016, “The day started with a fusion of Indian and Western cultural performances. This was followed by a sizzling Ramp Walk in which students from different colleges set the stage on fire.”
The winning team – ‘Biodegradable’, from Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College had an eco-friendly theme ‘Poupees de Papier’ where they flaunted clothes decorated with newspapers. Team ‘Panache’ from Jain University finished as the runners up.
“I really like the theme. It means bringing people of various nationalities together onto one platform to show their talents and diversity and that is not easy. I think the concept of this event is very unique,” said Sougour Hassan Ahmat, President of FISA B (Federation of International Students Association – Bengaluru), from Chad, Africa.
