Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, witnessed a 56 per cent increase in pre-placement offers (PPOs) this academic year (2017-18) with interships offered for students by large recruiters like Microsoft, Qualcomm and Goldman Sachs.
As on November 6, a total of 114 PPOs were offered to students as against 73 in preceding academic year (2016-17), says a press release.
Manu Santhanam, Advisor, Training and Placement, IIT Madras, said the internships are facilitated through an Institute-coordinated process. The PPOs are a reward for excellent performance of students in internships.
Nearly 60 per cent of PPOs went to students of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments as the Core Engineering Industry caters to the other engineering disciplines, the release said.
