The Andhra Pradesh Government plans to establish an independent body headed by a CEO to monitor the progress of the State’s flagship 'Smart Village/Smart Ward' programme, the Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, said today.
During a teleconference with 8,000 people who have come forward to partner with AP under this initiative, the Chief Minister asked them to contribute to the 'Smart Village/Smart Ward' programme.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Chandrababu Naidu also invited partners to support the State Government’s efforts to raise the living standards of the rural people by following the 20 indicators drafted under the programme.
Some of the key indicators include 24x7power, gas, road and drinking water, individual household toilets, 100 per cent literacy, no maternal or infant deaths, broadband connectivity, and no child marriages.
After the Government’s invitation, 7,978 General Partners and 4,767 Sector Partners have been identified for the development of their adopted villages/wards. About Rs 300 crore would be spent on modernisation works in some of the villages/wards.
Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, Actor Mahesh Babu and several industrialists have adopted some villages to develop them.
In order to generate funds to support the initiative, the Chief MInister suggested mobilisation of funds through Corporate Social Responsibility activities.
