Dell India is planning to set up innovation labs in professional colleges in tier-2 cities such as Mangaluru, Mysuru and Belagavi in Karnataka, according to Ranjit Metrani, Director and General Manager (South), Dell International Services India Pvt Ltd.
Speaking to Business Line in Mangaluru on Wednesday, he said the company was in touch with several professional colleges in the State in this regard.
New exposureInnovation labs will introduce students to new developments in technology that are not part of the curriculum in professional colleges. These labs will help take latest technologies and newer technology platforms to students enabling them to adopt such technologies, he said. The company is in consultation with National Institute of Technology Karnataka in Mangaluru and Manipal Institute of Technology in Manipal for the establishment of innovation labs, he said.
Stating that these institutions are keen on it, he said the labs would be set up in a couple of months.
Learning solutionsTo improve the quality of education in government schools, the company has joined hands with the State government. He said Dell, in association with the Bengaluru-based Edutel, has been offering distance learning solutions to students in 3,000 government schools in Karnataka. The project was started six months ago in 100 schools on a pilot basis. Now that has been extended to 3,000 schools in the state.
Following the introduction of distance learning solutions, the attendance rate of students in government schools has gone up significantly, he said.
Now the State Government wants to extend the facility to all the government schools in the State, Metrani added.
