Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has invited ‘vision statement for smart city’ and ‘goals’ to achieve the visions from the citizens with cash prize of ₹1 lakh for the selected version.
Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, MCC Commissioner HN Gopalakrishna said Mangaluru is one among the 98 cities shortlisted for the smart city project.
‘Smart city challenge’ The next stage in the process is shortening the list to 20. To make it to last list, Mangaluru has to meet the elaborate guidelines laid down by the Centre. For this, a ‘smart city proposal’ has to be prepared and submitted for ‘smart city challenge’, which is a competitive process for making the formal pitch.
He said the initial stage of conceptualising ‘smart city proposal’ is citizen engagement, as public participation in city development is one of the key ingredients of the smart city concept.
Vision statement Gopalakrishna said the vision statement should be described in maximum of 50 words. It should have economic, spatial, social, environmental dimensions that reflect the city’s unique physical and cultural traits. It should provide directions for the activities of the municipality, citizens and stakeholders.
The vision should capture what the city can be in the next two-three decades. It should summarise the impact of key aspects such as main economic activity, sustainability and inclusiveness, he said.
