The new teaching block of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) has bagged an award from the Directorate of CPWD as the third best completed building by CPWD for 2015-16. This award is given for buildings constructed by CPWD on all-India basis.
PK Naidu, Project Manager of CPWD (Central Public Works Department under the Union Ministry of Urban Development) at NITK campus, told presspersons that the new teaching block is the green building registered with GRIHA (Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment), New Delhi. GRIHA is a national rating system approved by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, he said.
Built at a cost of ₹23 crore, the building includes 20 class rooms, one air-conditioned auditorium, one air-conditioned senate hall and two mini seminar halls apart from staff rooms.
Naidu said that the building provides barrier-free environment for the physically-challenged persons.
