Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) will launchg the UJALA (Unnat Jeevan by Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All) programme in Coimbatore on Friday. EESL, under this joint venture with the Power Ministry, is hoping to facilitate implementation of energy-efficiency projects. Under UJALA, it is targeting to replace 77 crore inefficient bulbs with LED bulbs by March 2019. Under the scheme, high-quality 9W LED bulbs are made available at ₹70, 20W LED tube light at ₹220 and 50W BEE 5-star-rated fans at ₹1,200. In Tamil Nadu, EESL plans to distribute over 3 crore LED bulbs, 35 lakh tube lights and 10 lakh fans. The launch in Coimbatore is part of expanding its reach in the State.
