Piyush Goyal, Power, Coal and New and Renewable Energy Minister, said the Government's plan to create a 100 smart cities will finally give India new cities.
"Since Independence, Chandigarh is the only new city that has come up. Yes, New Raipur is there but the infrastructure developed there is still not enough. I look forward to your discussions which would be a valuable input as we embark on the journey to create 100 smart cities," said Goyal while giving the inaugural address at the One Globe 2015 conference.
One Globe conference has been organised since 2012 by the US India Business Council, Knowledge@Wharton, Brookings India amongst others.
At One Globe 2015 the focus will be on ideas, issues and impact of the new government's ambitious agenda to transform India into a 21st century knowledge economy through its initiatives like "Digital India", "Make in India" and "Smart Cities".
