Real estate developer Rustomjee has tied up with furniture giant IKEA India to design and furnish flats in its Virar project as it looks to meet the aspirations of young home buyers with a limited budget.
IKEA will furnish 1200 apartments at Global City, Virar, with its contemporary and cost effective furniture as the Swedish company looks to penetrate deeper into the India market.
“Global City has been designed with the common man in mind at aspirational price points. Our association with IKEA is not only the first of its kind in Mumbai and India, but IKEA also shares our vision of making homes for the common man,” Boman R Irani, Chairman and Director, Rustomjee Group, said at a press conference in Mumbai.
“There is a perfect synergy between the aspirational one and two BHK homes, which Rustomjee has designed at Global City, and IKEA’s brand philosophy of building homes for the common man,” he added.
“IKEA is about everyday low prices and being accessible for many more of the many people,” Niclas Silversved, Store Manager, IKEA Mumbai, said.
Globally, IKEA follows a B2C as well as B2B model, supplying furniture to small and medium companies, restaurants apart from working in collaboration with real estate developers. It is likely to enter into more such tie-ups in India too.
