Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy, in association with the Karnataka Department of Information and Public Relation and the Mangaluru-based St Aloysius College, will conduct a regional language film festival in Mangaluru on September 21-23.
Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Wednesday, N Damodara Shetty, coordinator of the film festival, said the organisers are making an effort to showcase the films from different regional languages of Karnataka in this festival. Nine feature films in Tulu, Konkani, Beary, Kodava, Banjara and Kannada languages will be screened at the festival.
The films have been selected based on the awards won by them at the national and State levels. Some other movies have been selected based on their mass appeal, he said.
Stating that the regional film festival is aimed at attracting youths to appreciate the movies in regional languages, he said such movies will help understand the language and culture of the regions concerned. Movies from the less-spoken regional languages also highlight and convey good messages to society.
He said the film screenings will be followed by interactions with the directors of the movies concerned.
The inauguration of the regional language film festival will be attended by Nagatihalli Chandrashekar, Chairman of the Academy, and Rishabh Shetty and Shivadhwaj, producers and directors of the regional language movies to be screened at the festival, he said.
