Three Lebanese football referees pleaded guilty of corruption Monday in a sex-for-match fixing case, with two sentenced to three months in jail and the sentence of the third deferred until Tuesday, the Straits Times reported.

The FIFA-accredited referees were arrested for agreeing to fix a match during the Asian Football Confederation Cup on April 3 in return for free sexual favours from prostitutes.

The three match officials were pulled shortly before the kick-off between local club Tampines Rovers and East Bengal of India.

Acknowledging that they had pleaded guilty, District Judge Low Wee Ping backdated the sentencing of two defendants to the day they had been placed in custody. The judge also suggested that the two could be released soon due to their good behaviour while serving time in prison.

A 31-year-old Singaporean businessman allegedly supplied the prostitutes. He was also arrested in April on corruption charges but released on bail.
