Smelling a business opportunity in breeding rats and supplying them to Big Pharma, tribal entrepreneur Chander Nayak has turned it into a successful venture.

In Hyderabad, the country’s pharma hub, an estimated 25 lakh rats are imported to undertake clinical research. Armed with this information, Chander Nayak approached many banks and financiers, who neither believed him nor extended finance.

Important contribution

When he approached DICCI (Dalit Chambers of Commerce Industry), he was given a loan. In a couple of years, he made a turnover of ₹25 lakh per month, said Narra Ravi Kumar, DICCI’s National Working President.

Narrating his successful entrepreneurship journey at the First National Tribal Entrepreneurs Conclave, Ravi Kumar said Chander Nayak has set up a Rat Breeding Centre in Hyderabad, and was making an important contribution to the pharma industry.

Similarly, another innovative tribal entrepreneur, Suresh Naik, has set up Tribal Mantra, an enterprise that bring out many interesting products made by tribals from various parts of the country to Hyderabad.
