An incoming western disturbance traced this morning over Iran and Afghanistan, has started influencing weather over North-West India from its remote location. The western disturbance travels periodically from West to East, all the way from the Mediterranean region, across South-West Asia (Iraq, Iran and West Asia) into Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

RAIN CLOUDS

It is the principal weather over North-West India during winter and early spring and becomes infrequent during the South-West monsoon. But the occasional one is known to interact with monsoon easterlies from the Bay of Bengal and cause intense and flooding rain over North-West India.

In the instant case, the disturbance has triggered the formation of rain clouds all over Afghanistan, with some crossing the border into South-East Pakistan. Patches of these clouds are also spotted over Bikaner, Dungarpur and Banswara in Rajasthan, while friendly low-level clouds have spread out over the rest of the state and Gujarat.

The Purna Wildlife Sanctuary over North-West Maharashtra and adjoining South Gujarat, too, were in the shadow of rain clouds, with maximum temperatures ruling below 30 deg Celsius at noon in the region.

As for tomorrow, the same forecast is valid for Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, North Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh.

To the South, rain clouds have developed afresh over South-East Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep and along the coast of Kerala, with some sneaking across the Wayanad border into Karnataka.
