In a historic memorandum of understanding, the stock exchanges of Bombay and Calcutta agreed to extend their respective online trading systems to each other. The agreement was signed by the presidents of the Bombay Stock Exchange and the Calcutta Stock Exchange. The MoU, to be backed by the latest techniques in communication and information technology, would subsequently ensure the extension of BOLT terminals to the members of CSE and C-STAR terminals to the members of BSE.

India will not yield to pressure on n-option: PM

India will not let itself be pressurised into signing the Fissile Material Control Treaty, the Prime Minister Mr. I.K. Guijral said in his first address to nuclear scientists since assuming office. Speaking to a large gathering of nuclear scientists — including Dr. R. Chidambaram. Dr. Raja Ramanna. Dr. I.K. lyengar and Dr. Anil Kakodkar — at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, he made it clear that the Government would be unwilling to sign the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty or the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty unless it was on its terms.

Targeted PDS: Mishra to the rescue of Laloo

The former Food Minister, Mr. Devendra Prasad Yadav, who has been discreetly proclaiming that the Bihar Government would fail to launch the targeted public distribution system (TPDS) on June 1, appears to have lost the first battle against his archrival and Bihar supremo, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav. Coming to the rescue of Mr. Laloo Yadav, whose political fortunes are on a cliff-hanger, is none other than Mr. Chaturanan Mishra, the Union Agriculture and Food Minister, Mr. Mishra, elected from the Madhubani district of Bihar, has personally given the go-ahead for launch of the TPDS in the State.
