Sept. 1: Bajaj Auto alleges that TVS Motor Company is using the same technology in its recently launched 125-cc TVS Flame motorcycle and thereby infringing on their proprietary know-how.

Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, says TVS is a “principled company” and will not do anything unethical.

Sept. 2: TVS Motor Company proposes to file a suit against Bajaj Auto if the latter does not withdraw its allegations that TVS infringed on Bajaj’s proprietary know-how.

The decks have been cleared for the country’s first power exchange, with a proposal put forward by Multi Commodity Exchange of India Ltd and Financial Technology India Ltd to set up a nationwide power trading platform getting the regulatory nod.

Sept. 3: Bajaj Auto Ltd prepares to defend its intellectual property in the event a rival’s product that uses the Digital Twin Spark ignition (DTSi) is eventually introduced.

TVS Motor says Bajaj Auto had, at first, filed a complete final claim for patent for its “DTSi” technology on July 3, 2003 stating that “An improved internal combustion engine for efficient burning of lean air fuel mixture used in engines working in four-stroke principle, characterised in that said IC Engine comprising…” But, this was not the invention for which the patent was granted.

Fortis Healthcare Ltd says its subsidiary International Hospitals Ltd, together with Oscar Investments Ltd, will acquire about 53 per cent equity of the Chennai-based 180-bed Malar Hospitals Ltd.

Carborundum Universal Ltd acquires 84 per cent of the ordinary shares of Russian company Volzhsky Abrasive Works for $37 million (around Rs 150 crore).

Maruti Udyog Ltd captures about 60 per cent of the small car market in Indonesia.

Bajaj Auto Ltd denies the Akurdi plant near Pune has been shut down, even as workers claim that production of two-wheelers has been totally discontinued from Sept. 1 and that the assembly lines are idle.
