Our Children’s Day is just over and World Children’s Day is coming up on November 20, leading to a flurry of activity around child rights, child protection, and enhancing opportunities for them.
For one, UNICEF has flagged several issues around its Go Blue campaign when iconic buildings in Mumbai and Delhi will be bathed in blue light to raise awareness on the rights and needs of children. The organisation aims to “amplify the voices of children and young people as active participants in decision making” across the country.
In 13 States, Dharma Life, which runs a network of rural entrepreneurs, launched a Lighting Up Young Minds campaign along with Signify Foundation. Here, children were invited to special reading sessions conducted under solar lights. The objective was to ignite imagination, foster team spirit, promote all-round development and, at the same time, expose children to clean energy alternatives.
Given that our under-18 population is around 41 per cent of the total, the more done for them, the better.
