The Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum (IGMM) in Delhi has curated a photo exhibition featuring many rarely seen images of the late leader’s personal and public appearances, to commemorate her 100th birth anniversary. Selected from among the thousands of images available of the country’s first woman Prime Minister, the 320 at the exhibition — on view at the IGMM from November 21 to January 31 — include many that are on public view for the first time.
Apart from glimpses of her early life, long before she entered active politics, the collection helps trace her evolution from being Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s protégée to becoming the country’s second longest-serving PM (after her father, who headed the government from 1947-67). The photographs from her private life include many with her husband Feroze, father Nehru and other family members.
