Olympus Imaging India Pvt. Ltd, the Indian arm of Tokyo-based Olympus Corporation, is looking to enhance market share in the digital camera segment from 6 to 10 per cent, this fiscal, according to Mr Toshio Murai, Managing Director, Olympus India.

It will also focus on niche product segments such as binoculars and voice recorders.

Entering the country in November 2010, Olympus sold 1.6 lakh cameras in India during the last fiscal. To ensure higher brand recall, Olympus will increase its dealer network from 1,700 to 2,000, this fiscal.

Doubling the service centre network to 20 and two master service centres - owned by the company itself - are also planned.

Niche Markets

Other than digital imaging, niche products - voice recorders and binoculars – would also be prospective growth areas. Individual sales apart, Olympus is banking on the corporate segment – primarily corporate gifts – as the thrust area.

Olympus enjoys 70 per cent global market share in the voice recorder segment.

While the company is expecting to more than double its binocular sales - from 8,000 units to 19,000 units - this fiscal, voice recorder sales too are expected to be doubled to 3,400 units.
