Nitta Gelatin India Ltd, a leading manufacturer of gelatin, is on a comeback trail.
The company, which has four manufacturing units in the country, including two in Kerala, made a modest net profit of ₹1 crore in the first quarter of this financial year, signalling a turnaround. It had made losses in all the three previous quarters.
The Kathikoodam plant in Thrissur district had been in trouble for long because of local people’s agitation against pollution caused by the plant. Last year, a mass protest led to police action.
Sajiv K Menon, Managing Director, NGIL, said in a statement that a study by the National Environment Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) on the Ossein plant at Kathikudam had shown that the company was complying with the regulations relating to pollution control. He said the company would implement all the recommendations made by NEERI.
