One person died and five persons were injured in an accident at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd on Saturday. Four of the injured persons and one deceased are contract workers and one injured is an employee of MRPL.
The company spokesperson said that a mild explosion that occurred around 11.15 a.m. at the sulphur recovery unit II injured six people working in that area. Later, the spokesperson clarified that one of the injured has expired.
The company gave the names of the inured as Mr Basheer, Mr Sirajuddin, Mr Ashwith, Mr Srinivas, and Mr Mahesh Kumar (employee of MRPL). It gave the name of the deceased as Nagesh. The contract workers belong to Entech Constructions and Sri Ganesh Constructions.
All of them have been rushed to KMC Hospital in Mangalore.
The management is investigating the incident. A committee has been constituted and a detailed report is awaited, it said.
