Australia received a little over 1.52 lakh Indian tourists in the first six months of this year, a nearly 5.6 per cent increase over the same period in 2011, according to the latest data released by Tourism Australia.
The Tourism Forecasting Council of the country expects to receive nearly 2.07 lakh visitors from India by 2015-16.
Tourism Australia said in 2011-12, Indian visitors contributed Australian $738 million to Australia’s total expenditure, with the Indian visitor spending an average of Australian $5,230.
Indian leisure visitors stayed an average of 47 nights. For the 12 months ending March 2012, Indian visitors spent a total of 8.7 million nights in Australia.
