Two employees of JSW Ispat Steel were killed when part of the office building collapsed in Mumbai on Monday.

JSW Steel and some of its group companies, including JSW Ispat Steel, have one of their offices in Victoria House at Lower Parel in Mumbai.

The constructed property was acquired by JSW Steel Ltd in 2005 and houses the registered office of JSW Ispat Steel.

A part of the building collapsed on Monday morning, causing loss of lives and injuries to some of the employees.

All the records, infrastructure and IT systems in the collapsed area have been destroyed, said JSW Steel in a statement.

The mishap has been attributed to certain modifications being carried out on the ground floor, which does not belong to JSW Group.

“In view of the action taken by the company, six employees from the debris were taken out and they are undergoing medical treatment in the city hospital,” it said.

The company added that it was unfortunate that two colleagues of JSW Ispat Steel Ltd could not be saved.

The company’s immediate priority is to provide all assistance and medical help to the affected employees, it said.
