The Andhra Pradesh Government is likely to take back ownership of Nizam Sugars Ltd that was privatised about 10 years ago.
A Group of Ministers, which met here on Friday, will finalise its report and submit it to the Government in a day or two.
The issue of nationalisation of Nizam Sugars has become an important agenda in the ongoing Telangana movement.
Various stakeholders have met recently and decided to launch a campaign for making it a public enterprise.
“It’s a welcome development. It’s a victory for the farmers,” Appi Reddy, Convener of the Nizam Sugars protection committee, told Business Line .
Nizam Sugars, set up by the Nizam in the 1930, used to be a profit-making entity till mid-1990s.
As it started making losses, the then Telugu Desam Government decided to privatise the factory, triggering protests from farmers.
