French hospitality major Accor, which handles diverse brands such as Novotel, Mercure, Ibis and Formula One, is betting on the convention business for growth in India.
With India accounting for barely one per cent of the global convention business, Accor scents opportunity here and is in the process of rolling out more brands from its portfolio such as Ibis and Formula One in markets where they are not present now.
Mr Paul Archer, General Manager Delegate of Accor based in Hyderabad, said, “We are looking at taking up management of three more convention centres at New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.”
Accor manages one of the biggest convention centres in India in Hyderabad, where it will be hosting the mega Global Biodiversity Summit 2012.
Mr Archer said being a relatively recent entrant to the convention network, it would take some more time and quality infrastructure for India to attract international convention business which accounts for a big chunk of global travel business.
