Diversified conglomerate Action Group has forayed into the wooden flooring business, with the company setting up its manufacturing facility at Rudrapur in Uttaranchal.

The company, which has interest in footwear (Action Shoe), Electronics (Microtek inverters), chemical and real estate (Suncity projects), Healthcare, Steel and Power, entered the wooden flooring under the company Balaji Action Buildwell.

“Affordable housing is fuelling growth in the real estate sector. Besides this, organised retail activity is also picking up. This has led to boom in the wooden flooring and laminate business. We wanted to capitalise on this growth by entering the category,” Mr Ajay Aggarwal, Director, Action Group told Business Line.

He said the company would be retailing the wooden flooring and laminates under the ‘Action Tesa' brand name. “We have set up plant in Sitarganj, Rudrapur and it will have a manufacturing capacity of over 3 million square meters per annum.”

Action Tesa aims to capture at least 25 per cent of the Rs 500 crore organised wooden flooring sector. The market is dominated by players Uniply, Greeply, among others.

Retailers

Mr Aggarwal said besides B2b business, the company is in the process of negotiating retail sales through large stores like Ebony Gautier, Home Town, Evok, Home store.

“We are targeting a turnover of Rs 500 crore in the next two years. The industry is growing fast and our gfacility and retail distribution will give us an edge over other market players.”
