Workers at Ashok Leyland’s manufacturing plant in Ennore, Chennai, are working only three days a week this month, owing to a production cut due to the slowdown, according to an official of the company’s union.
Workers will be compensated as per the number of working days. A former official of the company said this has been the practice over the years whenever times have been tough, adding that the company has worked for 14 days so far in June.
Once demand picks up and workers meet production targets, compensation levels also go up, he said.
In a recent interview to Business Line , Vinod Dasari, Managing Director, said the company has cut the number of working days from six to five days a week.
All executives have also taken a five per cent cut in salary.
