The Pantnagar plant of Ashok Leyland Limited (ALL) has rolled out the 100,000th vehicle from the plant on September 9.
The plant established in 2010 at Pantnagar in Uttarakhand has an annual capacity of 70,000 vehicles.
In its filings with the stock exchanges, ALL said that the fully integrated plant produced apart from trucks and buses aggregates like engines, gear boxes and axles.
Vinod K Dasari, MD, ALL, said (establishment of) the plant was an "important step in our ambition to be a world leader in the global commercial vehicle industry". The unit also produced ALL’s vehicles BOSS and CAPTAIN and he felt that ALL’s capacity would allow it to benefit from the anticipated turnaround in the economy.
He described the achievement of rolling out the 100,000th vehicle from the Pantnagar plant as a "significant milestone" as it came in four years of commencing operations and was able to roll out one vehicle every five minutes. The plant also played a significant role in the BLESSING scheme that provided opportunities for students from inaccessible hilly regions to become employable.
Shares of ALL were up by 10 paise to ₹41.70 on the BSE.
