Aurobindo Pharma Ltd’s abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) for generic version of a dexmedetomidine hydrochloride injection is entangled in patent violation cases.
The case was filed in the US District Court of Delaware for alleged violation of patent of the drug Precedex by Hospira which is used as a sedative.
Similarly, another two companies, The Medicines C. and Kowa Co Ltd, also filed cases in other courts on the Hyderabad-based company for violating patents of their drugs Angiomax (bivalirudin) and Livalo (Pitavastatin) respectively. While the former is used as an anticoagulant, the latter is indicated for reducing high cholesterol, among others.
When contacted, a spokesperson of Aurobindo told Business Line that the patents violations cases were quite common in the drug industry and the matter was sub-judice.
Aurobindo’s scrip declined 1.28 per cent after opening of trade in the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday and is trading at Rs 581.55.
