Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) has tied up with France’s Mediametrie for key technology services and licensing for the proposed audience measurement system.
Mediametrie will provide technological know-how and licenses to BARC to use their TV metering system and help BARC procure its own metering hardware.
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had last week formally notified the new guidelines for TV rating agencies. At the same time, Kantar Media (50 per cent owner of TAM Media) has said that implementing the guidelines on cross ownership would leave the entire industry without ratings for most of 2014.
BARC is expected to start generating ratings later this year. Meanwhile, BARC Chairman Punit Goenka said, “Our technical committee and the management had scouted the global marketplace for suitable technology…we will take a quantum jump in technology for audience measurement in the country.”
Mediametrie is the joint industry body in France engaged in multi-media audience research for the last 25 years.
