Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd's Ramachandrapuram unit near here announced it has completed refurbishing and upgrading the Kamadhenu oil rig, part of Rajahmundry Asset, of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). This was achieved in a record 98 days at the ONGC site in Rajahmundry. Commissioned in March 1989, Kamadhenu has drilled 97 wells and more than 2.4 lakh meterage. During its successful journey of 22 years, the rig achieved several record performances, safety awards and accolades from the ONGC board. Some of the jobs of refurbishment were taken up simultaneously. While the rig was in drilling operations, the jobs, like trial assembly of under structure of mast and mud tankage system, were taken up simultaneously at an alternative location DTSC, Narsapur, according to a statement from BHEL.
